What is cervical & lumbar traction?
A traction unit applies a measured, gradual pull to the neck or lower back. For selected people with nerve-related symptoms it can ease pain as part of an exercise plan.
You lie on a traction table while a harness applies intermittent or sustained pull. This gently separates spinal segments and relaxes muscles. Evidence is mixed — it helps some people with nerve-related symptoms and is always combined with exercise.
Also called: Spinal traction, Mechanical traction
