Cupping without the Instagram mythology
Silicone or glass cups create suction over muscle and fascia. That mechanical lift can temporarily change how tissues feel and how pain is perceived — especially in neck, shoulder and non-specific back tightness.
The evidence is strongest for short-term relief. The durable part of recovery is still how you move, strengthen and load your day. We treat cupping as a supportive modality inside cupping therapy care, not a standalone product.
What to expect
- Assessment and medical screen
- 10–15 minutes of static or gliding cups inside a ~45-minute session
- Stretching or exercise while tissues feel more workable
- Aftercare: hydrate, keep moving gently, expect possible circle marks
Home or clinic
Both work. Home is fine for dry cupping when space and privacy allow. Clinic may be convenient if you are already booked for other modalities the same day.
Book through the Quick Physio app and mention if you prefer to avoid visible marks.
Frequently asked questions
Will I get marks?
Often yes — pink to purple circles that fade over roughly 3–10 days. Tell us about events or photoshoots so we can avoid visible areas.
Is this wet cupping / hijama?
No. Quick Physio physiotherapists use dry cupping only.
Who should avoid cupping?
People on blood thinners or with bleeding disorders, broken/fragile skin, fever, or pregnancy over abdomen/low back — we screen first.
Can cupping be done on a home visit?
Yes when clinically appropriate. Sessions still include assessment and exercise, not cups alone.
